Sharon Stone's comments caused much uproar in China, causing Christian Dior to withdraw all of her ads there. The real concern is when the right of expression is compomrised by mass hysteria and economic interests. Public and constructive criticism is a sign of maturity for both an individual and a civilization. It seems that Chinese need to understand that along with its huge market potential, it needs to develop its sense of universal justice for all people, religions and sovereignty as well as an appreciation for civil and debate on social issues. Until then, tyranny by the masses is still nothing more than tyranny. It is unfortunate that Chinese have not learned from the destructive force and the root cause of their disastrous Cultural Revolution and Red Guards movements and are repeating the same mistakes all over again.
